Our Story

Built slowly. On purpose.

KIRN began as a conversation between two coffee professionals who believed great coffee should feel effortless — and that behind every effortless thing is a lot of quiet work.

The Beginning

KIRN was founded by a common passion of two people who had spent years in specialty coffee, on opposite sides of the same obsession.

Between them: over a decade of experience across roasting, barista craft, wholesale, and hospitality. Enough time to know what they valued, and what they didn't. Enough time to see that most of the industry was moving fast in one direction — and that moving slowly, with more intention, was its own kind of edge.

The idea wasn't complicated. Make exceptional coffee. Work with people who care. Build something that lasts.

The Name

The Name

A vessel for transformation.

KIRN is a word for a churn — a vessel for transformation. Something put in motion, slowly, until what comes out is entirely different from what went in.

That felt right for a roastery. Coffee is always in the process of becoming something. Green to roasted. Roasted to extracted. Good to great, if you get the conditions right.

We kept the name short. We like things that don't need explaining.

What We've Built

Today, KIRN operates from East London — roasting, training, and supplying independent cafés, restaurants, and hospitality spaces across the UK.

We run a café in London (hopefully two soon..) where we serve our own coffees and test everything we roast in a real-service environment. We supply wholesale partners who hold us to the same standard we hold ourselves. We train barista teams, install and service equipment, and take long-term responsibility for the coffee programs we're part of.

And we work in some of the most demanding environments in hospitality — including as the coffee supplier to a Formula One Team across European race weekends, where consistency under pressure isn't optional.

Small lists and long relationships.

We don't work with every café that asks. We take on wholesale partners selectively, because the support we offer — training, equipment, ongoing development — only works when we can do it properly. When we say we're your coffee partner, we mean it.

We source with the same care. Every coffee on our menu has a traceable origin, a named producer or co-operative, and a reason it's there beyond its price point.

Where We're Going

We're still early. There are more origins to explore, more partners to support, more environments to bring good coffee into.

We're building something that we want to be proud of in ten years. That takes time. We're comfortable with that.
